BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ Becomes First K-Pop Group MV to Hit 2.2 Billion Views
K-pop sensation BLACKPINK has made history with their iconic song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU,’ which has become the first K-pop group music video to surpass 2.2 billion views on YouTube. This achievement places it second only to PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ among K-pop videos.
According to YG Entertainment, the milestone was reached on the afternoon of May 27, nearly six years after the video was released on June 15, 2018. The music video has consistently broken its own records, reflecting its ongoing popularity.
‘DDU-DU DDU-DU,’ the title track of BLACKPINK’s debut mini-album ‘SQUARE UP,’ features a catchy chorus and memorable choreography, which contributed to its widespread appeal. In 2018, it was the most-watched K-pop music video worldwide. The song also made a significant impact on global charts, peaking at number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100, the highest rank ever achieved by a K-pop girl group at that time. Additionally, it has nearly 700 million streams on Spotify.
BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel boasts over 93.8 million subscribers, making it the most-followed channel for any artist globally. The channel features 45 videos with over 100 million views each and has a total of 35.6 billion views across all content, underscoring the group’s massive global influence.
