Full Interview with BLITZERS on ‘BGT’
How did you feel about being the first K-pop idols invited to ‘BGT’?
Lutan: When I first heard the news, I couldn’t believe it. It felt surreal. Since ‘BGT’ is a representative audition program in the UK, it felt like we were representing our country, so we prepared even harder. We wanted to show our best and properly convey the charm of K-pop.
Wooju: At first, it didn’t feel real, so we just thought, “Let’s prepare diligently.” As we prepared for the stage and moved from the auditions to the semifinals, we realized how valuable this opportunity was, and we learned a lot.
What was the most important aspect you focused on while preparing for the ‘BGT’ stage?
Jinhwa: One of the charms of K-pop is showing a dazzling performance while maintaining stable live vocals. We focused on balancing our performance and live singing to showcase this charm in the UK.
Sya: During the auditions, we were a bit overwhelmed as it was our first time. We focused heavily on the performance. After the broadcast, we had a feedback session with the members, and we decided to pay more attention to the live vocals and keep our excitement in check for the semifinals.
Have you watched videos of previous contestants? Which performance impressed you the most?
Wooju: There were so many talented participants in various fields like magic, acting, dancing, singing, and playing musical instruments, so it’s hard to pick just one. However, the performance that stands out the most is by a Taekwondo team called “Saulabi” from our season. They were amazing, and it made me proud to see another Korean team in the same season.
Juhan: Although it’s not from ‘BGT,’ I watched videos from ‘America’s Got Talent’ (AGT) and was impressed by the “Dokteuk Crew” performances. We were fortunate to collaborate with them, and it was great. Watching the performances of Travis Japan, a Japanese idol team, also motivated us to work harder.
How did you end up collaborating with the globally renowned dance team Dokteuk Crew?
Sya: We were contemplating what kind of stage to present, and our company found the Dokteuk Crew from ‘AGT.’ We thought it would be great to work with them, and they gladly accepted our proposal.
Lutan: The Dokteuk Crew has a lot of experience in global dance competitions and ‘AGT,’ so they were incredibly helpful. They provided tips that only a team with such experience could offer, and we felt reassured. We want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude.
How did you feel about receiving all YES votes during the auditions, and is there any memorable feedback from the judges?
Juhan: It was such an honor. We will show an even better performance in the semifinals since we received all YES votes.
Chris: I was so focused on the stage that I don’t remember much about the performance itself, but I was thrilled when the judges and audience gave us a standing ovation and chanted for an encore. Receiving all YES votes was an honor. Although it wasn’t aired, one judge said, “I wasn’t feeling well until yesterday, but this performance cheered me up,” and that comment still sticks with me.
What goals do you hope to achieve through ‘BGT’?
Chris: Our goal is to spread the charm of K-pop worldwide, beyond just Korea and the UK.
Lutan: We also want to become more admirable artists to our fans, BLIT, through ‘BGT.’
What should viewers look forward to in your upcoming performances?
Chris: We will show a new side of BLITZERS that hasn’t been seen on stage before! There are various points in the choreography, so it will be more enjoyable if viewers look for those elements.
Jinhwa: As we adapt to new stages, we aim to improve any shortcomings continuously. We have prepared a lot to take another step forward from our audition performance, so please look forward to it!
Do you have any messages for BLITZERS fans around the world supporting your journey on ‘BGT’?
Jinhwa: We still have a lot to work on, but thank you for always supporting and liking us. We will work hard to show you great performances worthy of your support, so please look forward to it!
Juhan: Thank you for your enthusiastic support from afar. We will work harder to be BLITZERS you can be proud of.
Sya: We’ve put in a lot of effort and feedback to show an improved version of ourselves, so we appreciate your continued support.
Chris: As much as BLIT supports us and stands by us, we will do our best to show you many great performances. We love you all!
Lutan: Not only for ‘BGT,’ but we are always grateful to BLIT for their support, and we will continue to show you many great stages in the future!
Wooju: Our goal is not just to win but to show BLIT and viewers a great performance. We will do our best to present a stage that everyone can enjoy in the semifinals!
